Your support for the Club at external events is very important. If you are attending and have spare seats in your car, or would like to attend but don't have transport please let me know and I will try to match you up!

Competitive Digital Imaging
New for the 2007/08 season, is the introduction of digital imaging competitions alongside the traditional print and slide.

The Club Evening on 28th February will be a test run to familiarise members with the procedure for entering digital images and to test ICPro, software designed for presenting club competitions.

The maximum size image that the Club's projector can display is 1024 x 768 pixels. After making any desired adjustments to the image (do not sharpen at this stage) in Photoshop, choose Help>Resize Image>Online. Change width to 1024 pixels. If the height is shown as more than 768 pixels then adjust the height to 768 (this will reduce the width). Click on OK to save the image. Either save the original image or delete it by closing without saving.

Now sharpen the image, this can be done on a layer (Layer>Layer Via Copy). After sharpening, change the blending mode in the layers palette from Normal to Darken; this can help overcome the 'halo' effect sometimes caused by sharpening.

Save the image for the competition using File>Save for Web. Make sure the format is JPEG, the Optimized box is ticked and the Quality is 100%. For the competition software to recognise the title it must be in capital letters, a space 'by' name e.g. IMAGE TITLE by A Member.jpg Click Save.

The image can be copied onto disk or sent by e-mail to the competition co-ordinator - in this case, Len Deeley - one week before the competition i.e. to enter on 28th February, images must be received by 21st February.

Full details of how to prepare digital images were circulated by Len in an e-mail dated 10th November 2006 and are on the website.

Wishing you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year - see you in January!
