FOCUS Newsletter - Summer 2008 - Edition 20  Page 1

We were saddened by the sudden loss of our chairman, David Hampson, and our thoughts are with Shirley and her family.

Members will be sorry to hear that David Hampson, our Chairman has died suddenly, at the end of a holiday with his family in The Gower, Wales. I understand that he was loading the family car, preparatory to return, when he collapsed without prior indication of any problem.

David joined the Club in our first year, 1980, and served on the committee in one role or another for much of the past 27 years. He was vice-chairman quite early on, but may be remembered most particularly for service as Treasurer, at which he was particularly skilled, and he held that post more than once. Latterly, of course, he has been our Chairman, at which task he has been possibly the most efficient, conscientious and hard-working of any of those who have taken it on. Recently, his computer skills made him a 'natural' for operating the Club's digital projector when (partly through his efforts) we acquired it with help from a grant from Waverley Borough.

On a personal level, his consistent good humour and schoolboyish enthusiasm have ensured his popularity. We shall remember him with fondness and profound regret at his premature departure from us.

Notice of AGM
Notice is given of Godalming Photographic Club's AGM which will take place on Wednesday 11th June 2008 at 8.00 p.m. at The Red Cross Hall, Wey Court, Meadrow, Godalming GU7 3JE. If you

do not receive an agenda, please contact Mike Hoad.

Part of the business of the AGM is the election of the committee. If you wish to stand for any post then please feel free to do so. Nominations must be submitted in writing, before the start of the AGM, with the agreement of the person nominated and signed by the proposer and the seconder.

If you have any queries or comments on the way the Club is run, this is your chance to raise them. You may do so on the evening, or by speaking to any member of the current committee before the AGM.

The AGM will be followed by the awarding of trophies for the 2007/08 competition season.

When the formal part of the evening is concluded, light refreshments will be available.

The competition subjects for 2008/09 will be announced at the AGM.

And on the subject of competitions…
May I put in a plea on behalf of the "putter upper" of prints - PLEASE label your prints clearly, preferably in black ink or dark pencil on a light background for ease of reading in low light conditions. Thank you.
