Chairman's Letter
Welcome
to the new season at Godalming photographic club. I write this
at the height of the summer, the sun is shining, the Ashes have
not yet been lost and we still have some British interest left
in Wimbledon. At this time of year with the long evenings and
sporting and social events in full swing there are great opportunities
for getting out and about with your camera.
Personally, I try to avoid the crowds and, if possible, head
off to the remotest corners of the British Isles. Two recent
short trips have both been highly rewarding, (in photographic
terms). A few days spent on the Northumberland coast allowed
time to explore the beautiful island of Lindesfarne as well as
visiting to two of Britain's wildlife hotspots; the Farne Islands
and Bass Rock. It was quite a privilege to be allowed to land
on Bass Rock and spend several hours amongst some of 150,000
Gannets that nest there. Most recently we spent a week on North
West coast of Scotland, concentrating on photographing the local
wildlife and landscapes.
Over the coming season I dare say you'll have the dubious pleasure
of seeing some of the results from these sojourns.
The new programme
gives ample opportunity for club members to show off their best
photography with several evenings devoted to presentations from
club members and the usual wealth of competitions.
Recent club outings
have proved highly popular and you'll pleased to see that we
have several planned for the coming season.
In addition, we
have some exciting presentations from external speakers scheduled
over the coming months as well as the usual mix of social, technical
demonstrations and SPA competitions. Thanks for William and Philippa
and everyone else who contributed to putting together an exciting
programme for 2009/2010.
